dato

Are you enthusiastic about AI methods and data science? Do you believe AI will change future health care?

Then consider joining us!

The Faculty of Medicine, Aalborg University, is launching a strategic initiative on AI method research within health data science. We aim at creating a cross-disciplinary initiative to strengthen cohesion across medicine, engineering and natural science disciplines and departmental boundaries at the Faculty.
To kick-off the initiative, three tenure track assistant professors are recruited within the area of AI and Health Data Science. One position is specifically within advancing multimodal AI for clinical practice to predict lifetime risk and treatment outcomes in cancer and complex diseases, and this tenure track assistant professor will be employed at the Department of Clinical Medicine.

The assistant professor position is available for a period of up to six years and is full-time - 37 hours per week. After approximately six years and a successful tenure review, the position comes with a promotion to a permanent position as associate professor.

The position is open for appointment from November 1, 2025, or soon hereafter.

Your work tasks
You will be responsible for developing novel national and international AI solutions for clinical practice based on multimodal data, including fusion of the rich Danish and international register data with data from journal notes, image data, omics data, and electronic health records. You will work within our areas of expertise on prediction of lifetime risk, treatment outcome, and risk of developing complications in cancer and cardiovascular disease, and more generally on stratification of complex disease trajectories. You will collaborate with clinical researchers to translate data into clinical applications. Additionally, you will contribute to teaching and supervision within the university's graduate and postgraduate programs.
As a tenure track assistant professor you are expected to participate in drawing up your individual tenure-track research plan, including both research and teaching career goals.

Your Competencies
We seek an ambitious early-career scientist with a PhD in computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, or a related field, and a solid research record in multimodal AI. We expect the candidate to have practical expertise in developing solutions based on one or more of the following areas: transfer learning for foundation models, reinforcement learning, or agentic AI. Theoretical insight into contemporary neural networks such as transformers is essential, and knowledge on development of neural networks focused on trustworthy, energy-efficient, and privacy preserving solutions will be highly valued. A collaborative, impact-driven mindset is key to success in this role, and experience with clinical or healthcare applications is an advantage.

The Department of Clinical Medicine provides research-based teaching across all disciplines of the medical degree program and conducts research within clinical specialties. The department collaborates closely with hospitals in the North Denmark Region and general practice in both teaching and research. Medical students receive instruction at several hospital sites and in general practice throughout the region. The department is affiliated with approximately 40 research units, each representing a specific medical specialty. In addition, the department is also associated with several other research units and centers. The majority of the department’s staff hold concurrent clinical positions alongside their academic appointments. Read more about the Department of Clinical Medicine here.

A maximum of two assessments may take place.

The assessment, on transition to the associate professorship, will as a minimum, emphasize the following qualifications in relation to the scientific subject area of the tenure track assistant professorship:

  • Research qualifications equivalent to the level that can be achieved on the basis of satisfactorily completed employment as tenure track assistant professor.
  • Documented scientific production at international level. Assessment will be based on up to ten selected publications selected by the employee.
